Was I supposed to have heard of Mad Max before a month ago? Is it famous? Is it a cult classic or a plain classic? PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW.

It is a cult classic! I would say it is kind of famous - I grew up knowing about it, though I've never actually watched it - but I wouldn't say it's particularly famous outside of the circle of people who are enthusiastic about post apocalyptic scenario sci-fi.

(There's a surprising amount of scholarship on it, though...)
