1. &LYDIA; I like all of Eager's protagonists but Lydia is particularly delightful.

4. Gordy's birdwatching and his secrecy over it is so cute, and those kids at his old school were so mean to break his Audubon society records.
5. There are several things I like about the way Eager writes kids, and the first is that they sometimes say adult things like “he indulges Deborah in her whims, and this is bad for her character.”
6. The plotline about the first black family moving into the town feels overly optimistic, even if many people oppose them.
