Harrow the Ninth (spoilers)
The sequel to Gideon the Ninth switches to Harrowhark's point of view. I love her, metaphorical warts and all. I love how serious she is, I love her dedication to the art of necromancy, and I love how she doesn't get that “serious woman learns to loosen up” plotline. Even though Ianthe tries.
I assumed at the beginning that the second person narrator was the Body, and I cheered when it turned out to be Gideon.
As with GtN, there are references to Internet memes, and what I found even weirder – a character recites a bit of Annabel Lee and Harrow's narration references Lady Bracknell's “To lose both parents looks like carelessness.” Also, according to Tamsyn Muir's AMA on r/Fantasy, Harrow having lemonade “as a treat” was not a meme reference, though it sounds like one!
I heard there was a coffee shop AU but I didn't know it was a space military coffee shop AU.
&ABIGAIL; and &MAGNUS; He saved her dance card!
I would have more to say if the fannish part of my brain wasn't occupied by something else (MASH).
