Wow, there's another new American Girl - Maryellen from 1954. When I was first got into the franchise, Kit was new. Her treasury was a fourth grade Christmas present and Kaya's first 3 books were fifth grade. I read Rebecca's books and liked them.

Also, who has 2 thumbs and is finally about to read The Mark of the Midnight Manzanilla? Me!

I am attempting to write another Gentleman Bastard fic for New Year's Resolution. I bought a new notebook and started it yesterday.

I love new notebooks. Just like I love new pencils with unused erasers.

Currently rereading The Passion of the Purple Plumeria, Pink Carnation #10. I can't say how excited I am to finish the series.

I have heard about CW's Little Women and I have zero interest in watching it. That said I think the "trying not to murder each other" line may have been meant less literally than people seem to be interpreting it. And does this mean ABC isn't doing their modern day AU show?

Why does nobody want to do modern day AU Jo's Boys? It's about 80% a college story; it would be so easy! The hardest part is finding an alternative name for Adolphus.

...that reminds me, I need to finish Nothing Much to Do. Don't you just love that title?

One of my bad habits is that instead of making a new text file, I open an old file and add the list/fic/meta to it. So sometimes I open something and go, "Oh, that's where the Beyond the Western Sea Hogwarts AU is." What follows here is a draft of my 2014 rarewomen fic, "Second Impressions" when it was in Nazca's POV instead of Sabetha's. I think it might be better this way.

ETA: The "three pounds, six shillings" was a placeholder, obviously.

Was I supposed to have heard of Mad Max before a month ago? Is it famous? Is it a cult classic or a plain classic? PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW.

Agent Carter got renewed! \O/ And Fresh Off the Boat and Galavant, too.

I don't think [livejournal.com profile] 40fandoms is going to happen for me this year. Almost all my books are in storage and I hate it. So I should concentrate my efforts on finding something to write for New Year's Resolution, and then perhaps getting back to the Dragaera femslash.

To do the Wednesday reading meme on Thursday: I'm rereading Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series, Regency romances with spy hijinks, before the final book comes out in August. This week I read #4, The Seduction of the Crimson Rose. I love this book. Mary knows she's beautiful and knows she's clever, though she hides the latter since she believes men don't like it. After losing her intended to her sister, she finds herself 25 and still in need of a husband and the money for another season, so she agrees to play bait for a French spy. Ugh, talking about books is so hard for me. Her dialogue with Lord Vaughn is fantastic and hot. And I get a kick out of her referring to Jane the spymistress as "Lady Richard's country cousin."
And Turnip making a cameo during the play!

Except I didn't access the internet on the first, so here we are.

1. My nephew was born on January 25! His name is Derrick, after his great-uncle, and he's super cute. He was 9 pounds 3 ounces.

2. [community profile] halfamoon is up and running. I don't know if I'll be able to write anything for it, but I look forward to checking out everything posted.

3. I wrote some Dragaera Ibronka/Roanna fic the other day, but I can't post it until I check it for in-characterness. The library here doesn't have Viscount of Adrilankha.

4. Weren't those Superbowl commercials rather boring? Not that I didn't appreciate the domestic violence awareness. And the Budweiser puppy was cute.

I haven't posted much fic and some of it is orphaned. But three recs I can do.

One is the masterlist of fanfic for Little Women, Eight Cousins, and An Old-Fashioned Girl. There are 480 stories; I just updated it for Yuletide.

(At some point I should make a LW reclist, but knowing there's fic I haven't read stops me.)

Two is Turn Out So Beautifully an Emily of New Moon fic with Ilse/Perry.

And three is this post of Beyond the Western Sea icons.

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1. A conversation about the works of Avi.

2. A promo banner for [community profile] historicalyafen. And for people to post to it.

3. Fanart of Emil and Mary from Jo's Boys.

4. Femslash fic or art of Ibronka and Roanna from Steven Brust's Dragaera series.

This is a newish community I found while reading rarewomen letters. You get to pick what other people read! I'm in the middle of Gone With the Wind right now and quite enjoying it.

There is a Patricia Finney wiki. I am surprised and delighted. Found it while Googling to make sure I spelled Becket right for the Porn Battle.

In celebration of Louisa May Alcott's birthday tomorrow, here are two stories with a trope in common:

Engimas
An old man convinces a young man to take a secretary job because the old man thinks his neighbors are up to something fishy. Try not to read the note at the beginning.

My Mysterious Mademoiselle
On a train to reunite with his estranged sister, a man meets a young lady on the run from . . . well, you'll find out.

(The vague summaries are because I'm trying to avoid spoilers. Just read them, okay?)
